Southeast Art Team’s Oya Art Gallery and Boutique celebrated Black History Month on the 20th with a special Third Sunday event featuring Winston Shaw, author of E-book/audio book, Artless, 101 Haiku Amerikano. Shaw is a writer/producer and creator at GTET LLC, a digital publishing company rooted in Afrofuturism.

Oya Art Gallery and Boutique is a studio and workspace celebrating local talent and Black culture on the 2nd floor of the historic Clementine McDuff Elks Lodge #598 building in Logan Heights. In 2021, artist Kim Philips-Pea (Art Director) moved the gallery from Market Creek Plaza where it launched in October 2020 after receiving support from the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation.

The 3rd Sunday event included live painting from artist Kim Philips-Pea and artist Robert Clemons and also featured exhibits, performances, and refreshments. Poet and visual artist Bryttani Mischell was featured in the Into the Heart & Mind session with artist Vee Brooks (president). High End Radio podcast host Mr. Caypre hosted the open mic segment featuring Shaw. Dr. LaWana Richmond (Afrofuturism Lounge, Afrofuturism Dream Tank, Afro Con) also shared original and AI-generated poetry. Selectress KatzGroove and DJ Tha Maaze provided the musical backdrop to the event.
